  • New Reviewer’s mode (View Design mode). See this blog post for more details.
  • Reviewers who are assigned to only one project will now bypass the project selection screen and be signed-in directly to that project.

Minor Features

  • The Documentation tab is now visible in the View Design and Reviewer modes as a toggle-able pane.
  • New look for the sign-in screen (removed radio buttons).
  • Fixed issues with HTML Export when the Home page is not included. A site index page will be used instead.
  • In the Editor, File > Paste Clipping has been removed as Clippings are now in the palette.
  • Fixed a rare bug where stateful content would flash before the page fully loads.

Also included: over 50 bug fixes and code enhancements to deliver more stability and performance.

ProtoShare 3.7

New Features

  • Specification DetailsAdded Specification Details to the component properties in the Editor. These details are Owner, Status, and Priority. These details are displayed and editable in the properties tab in the Editor and are also included in the Component Table in the Specification Document Export.

Changes/Bug Fixes

  • Search now in a tabThe search tab has been moved to the left-hand sidebar in Prototype and enhanced. When you first open this tab it will display all open discussion topics that have posted since you last visited. Search is a great way to keep up-to-date on the outstanding issues for a projecct.
  • Per design discussion topics and annotations. Previously the discussion topic panel in the right-hand sidebar, when selecting a page, would show all discussion topics or annotations across all designs. We found this caused clutter and sometimes confusion, so now the discussion topics and annotations only show up on the design on which they were created. Also for annotations, numbering is restarted for each design.
  • Specification Export is no longer accessible in the Standard Plan. Both Specification Export and HTML Export are now in the Professional Plan only.
  • Improved discussion notification email links. If you click on a link in an email to open the discussion in ProtoShare, ProtoShare will check to see if the page is already open in another window/tab so that you don’t get a sprawling set of windows/tabs.
  • Removed “Save As” from the File menu in the Editor when editing a design as the behavior was confusing. The “New > Duplicate” function in the Prototype filmstrip is the same as this “Save As” operation. Note, “Save As” is still in the File menu when editing a template.
  • The Private Review Mode setting located on the Manage Projects screen is now per project. Previously this was an account-wide setting. When enabled this restricts reviewers from seeing discussion topics other than the ones the created. It is very useful whenever you don’t want a group of reviewers to be influenced by each other’s comments.
  • Fixed broken external links (including RSS and iFrame links) in HTML Export.
  • Several minor bugs were fixed and UI tweaks applied.

ProtoShare 3.6

New Features

With ProtoShare 3.6 we have introduced a different pricing model. There are now just two pricing plans, Standard and Professional (all current customers will be put on the Professional plan). The Professional plan has features that are not in the Standard plan. These are marked below.

  • Professional Only. HTML Export – In addition to exporting a Microsoft Word Doc specification, you can export a zip archive of your prototype.
  • Professional Only. Grid View component – An interactive table that supports sorting, column drag and drog repositioning, row highlighting and more.
  • Professional Only. Tree View component – A component that renders nested lists as a tree, commonly used for folder/file structures and other hierarchical information displays.
  • Professional Only. The HTML Sandbox component has graduated from the Experimental section and renamed to the Advanced HTML component. This is a very powerful component that you can put any of your own code in and have it render inside ProtoShare.
  • Asset Gallery in the component palette – Placing images in the Gallery folder in the Asset library will now display those images in the component palette. This allows common images to be easily reused and for stencil libraries to be added to your workspace. In addition, sub-folders of the Gallery folder will display as their own collapsable section in the palette.
  • Palette List View – The component palette has a new display mode that shows one component per row with the components description. This description is available in the icon display mode by hovering over a component. Previously the tooltip that was shown was an instruction on how to put components on the canvas.

Changes/Bug Fixes

The following items have been changed/enhanced.

  • The message creator is no longer emailed a copy of the messages they create using discussion topics.
  • The Rich Text editor now appears in a dialog pop-up instead of being a split-screen editor. This was done to improve the performance of the editor with long amounts of text. We also think the feel is a little better this way.
  • New State link icon in the Rich Text editor. The lightning bolt icon allows you to highlight content in the Rich Text editor and enable one or multiple states on click.
  • The Rich Text editor has been upgraded to TinyMCE build 3.2.6.
  • The Export screen has been streamlined to include the HTML Export functionality.
  • Changes made to the Style sheet will cause the Editor to automatically refresh when you change from the Style tab to the Editor or Prototype tabs. Also little know tip: Control-S/Command-S will save the stylesheet. Very helpful if you’re doing a lot of stylesheet tweaking.
  • New warning message when moving files in the Asset library to alert you that current references to the file will not be updated.
  • Microsoft Word Doc and HTML Exports are saved in the Export Archives
  • States now work properly in View Design mode.
  • Many stability and performance tweaks have been done, especially when working with large numbers of components and duplicating projects.
